Ed completed a Master’s cum laude and PhD in education, at the University of Cape Town, South Africa. Over the past 14 years, he has done work in educational policy, development and management, adult and professional education, as well as curriculum and online learning design. The topics of his courses are often about digital integration and/or anything urbanist.
As a scholar, he has recently become interested in Science and Technology Studies (STS), focusing on the tensions between place, technologies, knowledges, designs, critical reflection and learning. His work in education enriches his scholarly pursuits greatly, while the place of the arts in all these wonderful things is constantly at the back of his mind.
Some of the other most recent finished, on-going and prospective projects include:
- Co-organising the Volvo Research and Educational Foundations (VREF) 2023 conference, which was held in March 2023 in Paris, France
- Redesigning, building and co-facilitating an online academic literacies course for young Sub-Saharan African academics practicing in the fields of transport studies and the broader environmental, civil engineering and urban planning fields, funded by the VREF and administered by Senghor (2022 & 2023)
- Adapting the above courses into three handbooks for facilitators and students
- Setting up a research group on “Cities, Practices and Technologies: Urban Mobility in the Global South”
- Organising an exhibition event in Paris on the broader field of urban sustainability
- Drafting a book on exhibition spaces, critical reflection and learning
